چکیده
Synoptic searches for the optical counterpart to a binary neutron star (BNS) or star-black hole (NSBH) merger can pose significant challenges towards discovery of kilonovae and performing multi-messenger science. In this work, we describe advantage global multi-telescope network end, with particular focus on key complementary role Dark Energy Camera (DECam) plays in multi-facility follow-up. Binary Neutron Star Mergers
We review the current status of studies of the coalescence of binary neutron star systems. We begin with a discussion of the formation channels of merging binaries and we discuss the most recent theoretical predictions for merger rates. Next, we turn to the quasi-equilibrium formalisms that are used to study binaries prior to the merger phase and to generate initial data for fully dynamical sim...

متن کاملr-Process Nucleosynthesis in Black Hole - Neutron Star Mergers
Compact object mergers have long been speculated to be a possible site of r-process nucleosynthesis. While most attention has been focused on the cold decompression of neutron star matter ejected from the merger, other sites within the merger likely contribute to its nucleosynthetic output. Here we consider hot outflows from the accretion disk that forms around the black hole following a black ...
متن کاملThe Fate of Neutron Star Binary Mergers
Following merger, a neutron star (NS) binary can produce roughly one of three different outcomes: (1) a stable NS, (2) a black hole (BH), or (3) a supra-massive, rotationally-supported NS, which then collapses to a BH following angular momentum losses. Which of these fates occur and in what proportion has important implications for the electromagnetic transient associated with the mergers and t...
متن کاملGravitational Radiation from Mergers of Black Hole–neutron Star Binaries
Angular momentum loss via the emission of gravitational waves must eventually drive compact binaries containing black holes and/or neutron stars to coalesce. The resulting events are primary candidate sources for detectors such as VIRGO and LIGO. We present calculations of gravitational radiation waveforms and luminosities for the coalescence of a black hole-neutron star binary, performed in th...
